Sadly our society is immune to such provocative and insinuating visuals. It takes a lot to shock us these days. I think its from all the years of brainwash that has made our mind go on lock down. Which might be a good thing for analytical people like us. We don’t fall into its trap 🙂
I remember similar controversy with Brooke Shields. I think she was even younger. Plus, she did that Pretty Baby movie. It was so controversial at the time.
Really? Or, it’s an actress selling perfume, a representation of which is in her lap. Could perception be the problem here? Are we seeing what we want to see? Are we projecting our sick thought onto someone else and attributing it to them? It’s her fault we thought what we did?
I see no controversy here!! The underwear are obviously intended for children that have trouble undressing to use the restroom…. I like ya KCM 🙂 You helped me prove my point..
You should see the other pics she did, there’s one with a rose on her breast if I remember. We used to make older women look younger for sex-appeal based ads- now we just sexualize the youth- more efficient I guess. A great reason to abstain from the celebrity-industrial complex
Well if you think about it, this ad did it’s job. It may be risque, but it got all of the media to talk and advertise it. So regardless if they ban it or not, it’s already out there. I think news media need to be more responsible about what they put out as well.
Who knows what they were thinking. Is the flower on the bottle suspose to be her “flower”? Use this perfume and you’ll be a virgin again! For five low payments of $39.95.

Hello, Personally I do not care for perfume. Each person has a personal scent. Each woman. Some perfumes literally make me feel like gagging..but I do not..grin and bear it..then grin and bare it..:-)..Peace Tony
I HATE this advert. It is disgusting. A few weeks ago, I showed Dakota’s face to my fiancé and said “How old do you think she is?”. He replied around 14. I then showed him the whole advert and he was grossed out.
I get making a statement.
I get wanting to grab attention.
But dressing up and positioning a young girl like this, for who? I didn’t realise paedophiles bought a lot of perfume. Which ever way you look at this, this advert was sexualising a child!
Wow this is probably the most disgusting ad I’ve come across recently! It is definitely too suggestive for a 17 year old! In the last few years though I’ve noticed too many 10-16 yr olds heavily made up and dressed in older women’s clothes for the camera in magazines and on tv. A disturbing trend…
“I don’t think the ads are meant to suggest an incestuous relationship between the two women, but given the sexualized nature of lingerie ads, a mother-daughter campaign just seems like a bad idea.”
You know, seriously, just fuck this. Our society is sick. And we’re all sick by it, except we are so used to it we no longer notice something is wrong. I hope modern society burns to the ground.
Oh, Lola! ?????
You got to be kidding. Holy crap. This place is more messed up then I thought…um…like every day. Thank you for a very unique and completely enjoyable blog. I will follow.
Provocative MARKETING. It could be artful, but is such poor form if you have read the book. Your post to the point and yet open for conversation. I liked it . Vote with your money don’t buy this perfume!
Thanks for liking my post!
peace.
What I find funny (?) sick, sad about our society is where are the parents? I guess, at least this girl is 17, but as someone else said, some of the other ads these days are using girls as young as 10, what? I guess these parents are only thinking of the $$$.You have quite an interesting blog, I’m glad I dropped by. Thanks for liking mine!
Maybe Dakota smells real bad… down there…. Is it a commercial for vaginal rinse?
If this comment had a like button, I’d so click on it! lol
Me too!
LOL
ditto on that. In fact, I was looking for the like button..duhhhh
me too!

I would just hit the like button, but it didn’t seem appropriate.

Who does that remind you of?
The question was how is this not controversial?
Controversy is a state of prolonged public dispute or debate, usually concerning a matter of opinion
The elusive “THEY” were claiming that this picture is not controversial. That’s all…
The above ad is not controversial at all. THIS is controversial:

P.S. Admire your dictionary-fu.

If you go by the strict dictionary definition of ‘controversy’, then everything is controversial, so your post has no point. How is that helping?
I’m just trying to have a shock-laden conversation here.

Generally horrifying, especially when it requires young women to starve themselves so they can appear even more powerless.

The worst part is that I still see her climbing out of a well. Those two images do not compliment one-another in a non-creepy way!

LAKE AND STAR’s new lingerie campaign:
